Moffat Takadiwa’s Exhibition At The Craft Contemporary Museum

Moffat Takadiwa is an artist who turns waste from end customers, like toothpaste tubes, computer keyboards, and spray cans, into wall art like a tapestry and multi-layered sculptures. These pieces of art personify the complex qualities of Zimbabwean politics and culture as well as Korekore heritage references. For the exhibition known as Witch Craft: Rethinking Power, from October 03, 2021, Takadiwa made new pieces of art that float in the air and cascade off walls. These pieces defy gravity.

Cellista Performs Live At The Santa Monica Playhouse

Cellista is a performance artist whose poems on stage are described as resistance art pieces that explore the ruptures in everyday life. The poems are observant, revealing, and politically concerned works that break down the barriers between performers and audiences, genres and disciplines. Pariah is Cellista’s latest work, an operative album having semi-autobiographical connotations that explores exile and othering in communities. The Pariah release party on October 01, 2021, at the Santa Monica Playhouse, features Cellista’s dance film with her chamber ensemble members.

Kwame Brathwaite’s Exhibition At Philip Martin Gallery

From October 02 to November 13, 2021, the art gallery in Los Angeles will exhibit unprecedented images of photojournalist Kwame Brathwaite. Captured between the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, the striking and thoughtful photographs of Brathwaite depict unity and love among African-American people. He once used photographs to popularize ‘Black Is Beautiful’, a political slogan. In the photographs that explore Black viewership and subjectivity, he shows that the ability to create one’s image is important for self-determination, dignity, and freedom.

The photos of Brathwaite acknowledge the true power of not just the medium but also people. His photography subjects are people with stories to tell and the ability to act or choose what to do.

Ascension At An Echo Theater Company Location

Ascension is the name of a futuristic play with elements of science-fiction, mystery and audience participation in it. The play addresses the central parts of audience assumptions regarding reality, memory and faith. It features Rebel, a character with amnesia who is trapped in a long and narrow box. No one except for the audience will know that the character is in the box. The play will psychically connect the minds of the character and the audience, and only the latter can aid the former in escaping.

Now, as an audience member, you might wonder who Rebel is and how you can be connected with the character. It is for you to find out from October 06 to November 18, 2021, at Atwater Village Theater.

Chelsea Kosta’s Conduit Exhibition At Open Mind Art Space

From October 02 to 30, 2021, the art gallery will exhibit the acrylic paintings of Chelsea Kosta that are nonrepresentational and are created on unstretched forms of canvas. Costa has long been trying to apply multiple paint layers with corrugated plastic pieces and palette knives. Special qualities such as value subtleties and dynamic coloration bring an element of balance to Kosta’s compositions.

She made depth and texture with a fluid and repetitive vertical and horizontal mark-making method. Kosta’s art encourages an active experience for the viewer as it catches their attention with an energetic artistic continuity. Her works also have an interplay between translucent forms that seem to change when you view these from many different perspectives. Kosta will paint in the window of the gallery for the opening ceremony of the exhibition.

Los Angeles Center of Photography (LACP) Gala And Auction At Quixote Studios

From October 02 to 04, 2021, Quixote Studios will host a cocktail party and private viewing event honoring Mona Kuhn, one of the best fine art photographers. Amelia Lockwood Exhibition At ODD ARK LA

Artist Lockwood utilizes clay with glazed and etched surfaces to show cartographic pieces of intra-dimensional self-realization in 3D form. The cartographic works trace the connections between ancient, spiritual and esoteric maps and modern board game constructs. Lockwood’s use of artistic symmetry indicates that her forms are either heading towards an omega point or sprouting outwards. That symmetry establishes mandala-like open-air theaters or arenas, a location for theater, game and congregation.

Some forms seem like candelabras, as well, which furthers not just the sense of ritual but also the illumination in the outer and inner cosmology of psychological play. To learn more about her work, attend the Mondegreen Nursery exhibition that runs from October 02 to November 05, 2021, at the ODD ARK LA gallery.
