SAP Rocky Denies Assault Charges In LA

ASAP Rocky pleaded not guilty concerning charges of felony assault while discharging a firearm, during a 2021 confrontation that occurred in Hollywood.

The rapper is facing the accusation of drawing a gun and subsequently firing it twice, while directing it towards a former friend while the two were having an argument in November. On Wednesday he pleaded not guilty to the two counts of assault leveled against him, and was ordered by the court to appear on November 2.

Judge Victoria B. Wilson of the LA County Superior Court ordered ASAP Rocky—legally named Rakim Athelaston Mayers—to keep away from the friend he is accused of having shot at.

Mayers as well as two other men fled after the gun was fired, according to police. On April 20 he was arrested at LA international airport, before being released on bail the same day. Authorities said the rapper was on his way back from Barbados after vacationing with Rihanna, the singer. The latter gave birth to a son in May.

ASAP Rocky members ASAP Mob, and gained fame in music with his 2011 single “Peso”. His debut album “Long. Live. ASAP,” which released in 2013, placed No.1 on Billboard 200, and so did the 2015 follow-up, “At. Long. Last. ASAP.” ASAP Rocky has two Grammy nominations.
